Bellevue, WA -- Over the past nine years CFO Selections has provided many local nonprofit organizations with professional services in accounting and finance; our clients have included Seattle Symphony, Seattle Aquarium, Pacific Science Center, CRISTA Ministries, LifeCenter Northwest, and Friends of the Children.

Now, we are pleased to announce that we are expanding our commitment to the nonprofit community with the creation of a team which can specifically focus on their needs. We understand the unique strategic and financial challenges inherent in nonprofit settings, and provide interim, part-time, or permanent financial leadership at an affordable price. As with our services available to for-profit companies, our model means clients pay only for what they need, whether that is a few hours a week, a few days a month, or help finding the perfect hire for a full-time position.

Our team is highly skilled at quickly evaluating existing processes and organizations, and our goal is to provide both practical suggestions for change and ongoing, hands-on help. Each team member is experienced in cross-organizational operations - so if there are issues in IT, HR, or Development, we can help with planning and executing solutions in those areas as well. Our entire consulting group is made up of more than 30 finance professionals and includes:

Tammy Helgeson: Tammy spent 15 years successfully building a consulting practice in all areas of accounting, reporting, compliance, and financial management for public and private charities ranging from small operating nonprofits to large ($95M) charitable endowments. Her clients include the Medina Foundation, the Henry M. Jackson Foundation, Philanthropy NW, and Boyer Children's Clinic. She has directed all aspects of accounting operations at both for-profit and nonprofit entities, including reporting, budgeting, grant reporting and compliance, payout planning, investment and endowment reporting, direct and indirect expense allocations, and communication with executive management and audit/finance committees.

Amy Romer: Amy has experience in all aspects of nonprofit accounting. She can assist with Federal (990) reporting and audits, and is well versed in the special compliance requirements for publicly-funded organizations, including A-122 and A-133 requirements, and NIH and USAid compliance. Before joining CFO Selections, she was Senior Director of Finance at the Allen Institute for Brain Science, where she was responsible for all aspects of accounting and finance.

Bill Palmer: Bill has experience with the finances of nonprofits from multiple perspectives: he has been a nonprofit CFO, a board member, and leader of a capital campaign which raised $1.5M from private donors. For more than two years, he has acted as CFO at a local children's charity, where he oversees the accounting staff and also assists the executive director in budgeting and long range planning to support capacity building.

Richard Salitra: Richard Salitra is a seasoned leader with well-rounded experience in finance, accounting operations, and general management in a breadth of industries. He is currently the CFO of the Infectious Diseases Research Institute (IDRI) in Seattle. Richard's leadership experience includes Federal grant compliance and working with management on fundraising and liquidity issues. Additional focus areas include budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis and modeling, and process/reporting improvements.

Bellevue, WA - Children in foster care needing permanent families will benefit from a $15,000 grant awarded to Amara by the CFOS Foundation. Amara (formerly Medina Children's Services) is an independent, nonprofit organization in the State of Washington that has been providing services to families and children since 1921. Throughout their history they have developed pioneering programs to meet the changing needs of area children, youth, and families. Today, their mission is to create and support stable, loving homes for vulnerable children, especially children in foster care, and their vision for the future is "A Home for Every Child."

"There is a lot of compelling research showing the critical need for 'forever families' for the children within Washington's foster care system who cannot return to their families of origin," said Tom Varga, founder of CFO Selections, the financial services firm whose partners launched the CFOS Foundation. "We are very pleased to be able to support the foster-to-adopt programs of Amara with a CFOS Foundation grant."
In just the last three years , Amara found loving, permanent homes for 145 children from foster care. More than half of these children were siblings who found adoptive homes in which they could heal and grow up together.

"The outlook for children who 'age out' of foster care without permanent families is heartbreaking," said John Morse, Amara's Executive Director. "We know that fewer than 50% will graduate from high school, nearly half will abuse alcohol by age 25, and more than 25% will be incarcerated within two years. When we find the right adoptive family for a child in foster care, it is transformative. Their chances for going to college, developing healthy relationships, and thriving as adults rebound when they are embraced by a family who can love and commit to them for the rest of their lives. We appreciate the trust placed in us by the awarding of this grant from the CFOS Foundation, which will assist us in finding families for these vulnerable kids."

To find out more about Amara, or to contribute, visit their website at www.amaraparenting.org.

About the CFOS Foundation
The CFOS Foundation was founded in 2007 by the partners of CFO Selections LLC: Mark Tranter, Rich Leo and Tom Varga. The vision of this group is to harness the energy and talent of professional people who care about the needs of local children in micro-communities and work to make a measurable, positive impact within these communities.

The CFOS Foundation looks to provide both funding and leadership to effect change, one child at a time.

Bellevue, WA - The CFOS Foundation is pleased to announce the award of a grant to Children's Institute for Learning Differences (CHILD). CHILD's mission is to provide innovative school programs and clinical therapies that promote social, emotional, and academic development for children with severe and perplexing learning disabilities and emotional challenges, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, emotional trauma, ADD/ADHD, mood regulation and impulsivity, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and related mental health issues.

Within families, raising these children can cause enormous stress. Parents of children with complicated learning disabilities often contend with deep sadness and depression about their child's difference, anxiety about how to address their child's needs, and frustration and lack of understanding about how to de-escalate an impulsive or volatile child. These challenges can cause parents to become worn down, impatient, highly reactive, and sometimes violent. Some cave in after years of feeling isolated, confused, and ineffective. They need education from caring professionals and empathy from other parents in a like situation.

Funds from this grant will be used to provide support groups which empower parents with research-based information, tools, and therapeutic supports. The goals are to create strong, healthy parent-child interactions, to replace despair with hope, and to prevent child abuse.

"CFOS Foundation has clearly stepped forward as a compassionate supporter of services to vulnerable children," said Trina Westerlund, CHILD's Founder and Executive Director. "This grant will establish a desperately needed resource to courageous and determined families who otherwise become caught in a downward spiral of isolation, crisis, and despair. Thank you to CFOS Foundation for helping us hold each family and each child's future as precious."

More information about CHILD us available on their website at www.childrensinstitute.com. The vision of this group is to harness the energy and talent of professional people who care about the needs of local children in micro-communities and work to make a measurable, positive impact within these communities.

The CFOS Foundation looks to provide both funding and leadership to effect change, one child at a time. More information is available on the website.
