Richard Salitra Joins CFO Selections

Bellevue WA -- CFO Selections announced today the addition of Richard Salitra to its professional services practice. Richard is a senior financial executive and seasoned leader with well-rounded experience in finance, accounting operations, and general management. He has extensive operational experience in building finance and administrative functions to support the rapid growth of small to mid-size companies. Prior to joining CFO Selections, Richard held senior financial positions in a variety of companies in the high tech, service, property management, and financial services industries. Most recently, he was CFO of an early-stage service company, where he developed all revenue and business models, negotiated relationships with key service providers (banking, legal, insurance, etc.), supported equity financing activities, and designed and implemented all corporate policies and procedures, including finance and HR.

At several firms, Richard has been responsible for the implementation of accounting software systems, including PeopleSoft and Dynamics-GP. He has also created and managed numerous initiatives to lower costs and improve operations, including improvements in cash management, collections, procurement, and financial reporting.

Richard received his MBA from Seattle University. He also holds a BS in Accounting and Finance and a BA in Economics, both from the University of Colorado. He is a Washington State CPA (inactive) and a CMA.

For The New Legislation?

Beginning July 1, 2010, Washington State's business and occupation (B&O) tax was extended to corporate directors. The basic premise of the legislation is that corporate directors are engaged in business as independent contractors for the corporations on whose boards they serve. The new tax bill explicitly extends the B&O tax to amounts received by an individual from a Washington corporation for serving as a member of that corporation's board of directors.

Who is subject to the B&O Tax?

Corporate Directors: specifically, those who receive compensation for serving on the board of directors of corporations that are based in or headquartered in Washington.
Nonresident Directors who have sufficient nexus for B&O tax.

Who is NOT subject to the B&O Tax?

Resident Directors are not subject on compensation paid by corporations based outside Washington.
Employee Directors.

How do I determine if I'm subject to the extended B&O Tax?

Do you receive cash compensation for service as a corporate director for a Washington-based Corporation?
Have you received stock options or grants in exchange for your service on a corporate board in Washington?

CFOS QB Consulting Saves Marine Engineering Firm Thousands
Of Dollars Yearly On Support Fees

The Challenge
Prior to making the decision to switch to QuickBooks Enterprise, Sea Technology used multiple systems to manage their accounting and inventory functions. Their primary accounting system was Great Plains (Microsoft Dynamics GP), and they used an outside payroll company. Yearly maintenance costs were a major concern, as was the complexity of the system; it was difficult to train new employees and the company felt that they were paying for many features which they did not really need.

Sea Technology wanted to switch to an integrated accounting, payroll, and inventory system that could be accessed from both of their offices, would be easy to learn, and would be less expensive than their existing system. In addition, it was critical that any new system be able to handle their special requirements for tracking employee hours both on land and at sea, since their employees were covered by different insurance plans depending on their location.

The Solution
Sea Technology contacted a member of the QuickBooks team, who proposed that they switch to QuickBooks Enterprise for both accounting and inventory, and that they use Intuit Assisted Payroll to handle the tracking of employee hours by location.

The conversion was done over a single weekend, including the import of 25,000 items and setup for ten users. For the cost of a single year of Great Plains support, the company was able to pay for both the software and the cost of the conversion. On an ongoing basis, the yearly support fee for QuickBooks Enterprise (which includes a yearly upgrade) is less than 10% of what they were previously paying for Great Plains. In addition, by switching to Intuit Assisted Payroll, Sea Technology saved 20% while streamlining and automating their payroll process.

Savings Pay For Software Implementation At Generator Service Company

The Challenge
Prior to engaging CFO Selections in early 2009, D Square Energy Systems had a labor-intensive, manual process for dispatching technicians and managing scheduled maintenance. After the work was finished, payment was delayed until invoices could be sent out. D Square wanted to implement a mobile-device based dispatch system which would allow their technicians to process work orders and receive payment in the field.

The Solution
D Square contacted CFO Selections, which introduced them to Intuit Field Service Management ES®, and said it could be implemented within a week -- and would tie seamlessly into their existing QuickBooks software. Based on the demonstration and the low up-front investment required, D Square purchased a subscription to the web-based software, along with mobile printers and mobile card-swipe devices for several of their technicians. By day three of the project, they could start loading the system with customer details. By day five, work orders were being dispatched to all their technicians directly on their mobile devices.

The technicians are now able to get all their work orders remotely, and only need to come in to the office to pick up their paychecks and restock their trucks. They are able to take credit card payments from customers at the time the work order is completed, and the record of payment goes directly into QuickBooks.

Because GPS is enabled on the mobile devices, the central office knows where the technicians are at all times. Technicians can change their status - working or traveling - and this information then feeds directly into QuickBooks and automates time reporting for payroll purposes.

The successful implementation of Intuit Field Service Management ES has allowed this CFO Selections client to gain the benefit of an enterprise level system at a fraction of the usual cost. Not only have their savings in fuel and labor dollars paid for the software implementation, but the additional capabilities they gained have also allowed them to obtain master dealership status with a major equipment vendor, greatly increasing their business. They have also been able to extend their operations into Oregon, due to the fact that the software is web-based and globally accessible.
