Rainier Climb for Kids

On June 19th 2008 a team of six climbers will attempt a Mt. Raineir summit climb via the Emmons Glacier to raise money to fund the grant making actvities of the CFOS Foundation.

The goal of the team is to raise $50,000 of which CFO Selections will match each dollar raised.

The team will be lead by Tom Varga and Ken Krass. Additional team members are Bob Schmidt, Tom McDowell, Rick Shedd, and Leo Falkenshammer.

Mount Rainier is an active stratovolcano (also known as a composite volcano) in Pierce County, Washington, located 54 miles southeast of Seattle, Washington. It is the highest peak in the Cascade Range and Cascade Volcanic Arc at 14,411 feet (4,392 m).  With 26 major glaciers, Mount Rainier is the most heavily glaciated peak in the lower 48 states with 35 square miles of permanent snowfields and glaciers. The summit is topped by two volcanic craters, each over 1,000 feet in diameter.
