ABOUT the company

A Seattle, Washington based holding company manages a collection of operating companies, real estate properties, investments and trusts. Some operating companies have their own board and management team and operate independently with high level oversight provided by the holding company. The holding company has a strong balance sheet and is continuously looking for new investments. The range of responsibilities for this position will span accounting, budgeting, risk management, financial reporting and working with tax professionals. The position is responsible for the closing of financial statements for a large number of corporate entities as well as the monthly consolidation process.

POSITION SUMMARY

The ideal Corporate Controller is a trusted financial steward of corporate resources who takes pride in maintaining an efficient closing process for timely and accurate reporting and audit ready workpapers. They will appreciate being in a dynamic company with investments in multiple industries (services and real estate for example) and enjoy digging into complicated accounting matters as the organization’s technical accounting expert. As the leader of the accounting function, the Corporate Controller will collaborate with multiple stakeholders across management, ownership and subsidiary operating companies. The position reports to the CFO and manages a team of a handful of highly skilled employees, many who have a long tenure with the company.  The team works in a collaborative and professional office environment.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY

• CPA is required, inactive status is acceptable – but a desire to take continuing education is preferred.
• Desire to work in a hands-on manner on complex accounting topics (writing technical accounting memos as an example).
• Experience managing an accounting team and owning the financial statement closing process.
• Experience with the monthly closing process of consolidated financial statements.
• Proficient at designing, documenting and monitoring the effectiveness of internal controls.
• Experience working closely with internal or external tax providers a plus
• Meaningful experience managing ERP system administration and related IT projects.
• Experience working in a family-owned business is preferred.
