April Yao
April Yao’s career in finance began with a foundation built at General Electric, where she learned to navigate complex financial systems and large‑scale operational challenges. That early experience sparked a passion for solving difficult problems – whether it meant untangling years of accounting backlog, rebuilding financial processes, or bringing clarity to fast‑moving organizations. Over the next 18 years, April grew into a seasoned CPA and finance leader, taking on roles such as Controller, Senior Director of Accounting, and Director of Finance, across electronics, technology and security systems, robotics, biotech, manufacturing, and medical equipment. Her work has spanned controllership, FP&A, taxation, audits, payroll, M&A, and private‑equity environments, with leadership positions at JDL Digital Systems, Viome Life Sciences, Autel Robotics, and Sonic Concepts.
Throughout her career, April has become known for stepping into complexity and creating order. She has led accounting transformations, strengthened internal controls, driven cost‑efficiency initiatives, and supported fundraising efforts exceeding $80M. Whether consolidating financial records after acquisitions, leading investor reporting, or guiding companies through audits and rapid operational change, she brings a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and calm, steady leadership. Her academic background includes an M.S. in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh and a B.A. in Economics/Accounting from Peking University, complemented by an active CPA license in Washington State.
Outside of work, April gravitates toward activities that mirror her analytical and curious nature. She enjoys solving puzzles, playing ping pong, swimming, hiking, and reading – pursuits that keep her mind sharp and her energy grounded. Her approach to both work and life reflects the same qualities: focus, resilience, and a genuine enjoyment of tackling challenges with clarity and purpose.
