Nell Whitman
Nell has significant experience leading small to mid-size non-profits ($500K to $20M) through stable times and times of change. She is a hands-on leader with expertise in accounting, compliance, payroll, financial planning and analysis, grants management, audits, and budgeting. She collaborates with colleagues to implement best practices in finance and accounting, and addresses the specific challenges presented by each organization.
Nell brings a particular passion for human service organizations, plus those working on education, immigration, or affordable housing. She has helped organizations solve a variety of fiscal challenges. These include increasing revenue, addressing unsustainable financial operations, and supporting an organization through a merger. She enjoys collaborating with others, excels at making financial information accessible to all stakeholders, and typically serves as a thought partner to the Executive Director.
Prior to joining CFO Selections, Nell was the Finance Director at multiple organizations, including two stints in interim roles.
Outside of her finance work, Nell is fascinated by languages. She has a BA in German, MA in Linguistics from the University of Chicago, and is fluent in Spanish and German. She also has an MBA in Human Services Management from Brandeis University. In her spare time, she helps asylum seekers from Central America, goes hiking, and is in the middle of reading too many books at once.
