    COMPANY OVERVIEW

    Since 1980, Bellwether Housing has met the housing needs of lower income people in the Seattle area including young people just starting out, families earning modest wages, seniors living on fixed incomes, and households transitioning out of homelessness.  As the largest nonprofit provider of affordable housing in Seattle, they have developed and now operate 2,100 homes in 32 apartment buildings throughout Seattle and employ over 130 people.

    Bellwether is growing. Current revenues are $29M with assets of $250M. They anticipate building 1,200 new affordable homes over the next five years, a 50% expansion. This growth will require them to adapt and invest in their physical and technological infrastructure, as well as their human capital. It will also require development of new strategies for financial resource management. This anticipated growth is an incredible opportunity for a strategically-minded financial leader.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Bellwether Housing is seeking a dynamic and thoughtful Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with a collaborative and influential leadership style. The CFO must have the ability to inspire others into action and think creatively about solutions. The successful candidate will be a transparent and strong communicator responsible for partnering with others on the leadership team and the Finance & Audit Committee of the board to plan for the growth of the organization.

    The CFO will be a member of the leadership team that leads the stewardship of the organization’s assets.  The CFO will report to the COO, and the CFO’s direct reports include the Controller, Senior Asset Manager, and IT Project Manager.

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY

    • Commitment to the Bellwether Housing’s mission, vision, and goals. Culturally competent and committed to advancing social equity.
    • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; MBA or similar advanced degree highly desired.
    • Experience with commercial lending for multi-family housing preferred. Background in real estate development, property management, or construction is highly desirable.
    • Solid understanding of strategic planning, forecasting, budgeting, and managing or leading IT system implementation projects.
    • Strong financial analysis and modeling skills.
    • Experience working with Board of Directors and Board committees is preferred.
    • Experience as a member of a senior management team.
    • Demonstrated experience in scaling organizations and leading through organizational development and change.
    • Exposure with nonprofit governance and compliance issues is highly desired but not required.
