Helen Macias
Helen is an innovative and results-driven business leader with over 25 years of non-profit accounting and executive leadership experience. Her expertise includes financial reporting, audit preparation, budgeting and forecasting, and extensive Board and governance experience. As a mission-driven non-profit leader, she is very comfortable wearing many hats including Board and staff education, budgeting, process review and strategic planning. A strong accounting and finance background enabled her to understand detailed financial results and to be able to drive strategic planning and operational decision-making.
Helen began her career in Public Accounting as a Tax Associate and moved on very quickly to a large utility in Property Accounting and Internal Auditing. She loved Internal Auditing and developed workpaper standards and audit presentation skills in this role. Her auditing background developed over time to work on large fraud cases and internal control.
From this role she moved on to Credit Union Leadership, developing a marketing department, improving technology for staff and members, and succeeding in the increase of membership by 34%.
As credit union mergers became necessary, she started an accounting practice working for small businesses. As a volunteer Board Member for a Human Service Agency, she became more involved in Human Service mission-driven non-profits. She served as the CFO for a human service agency for 11 years. Redesigning the billing process for funding enabled the organization to bill more efficiently and improved cash flow by 33%. Her experience includes accounting and strategic direction for non-profits.
Helen holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Administration from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado. She is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in Colorado. When not working she enjoys camping, hiking, reading, working out and spending time with her family.
